Bubblegum
[Bubblegum is another in a series of experimental tracks. I wanted an absolute rager so I could feasibly form mosh pits during performances. The chorus is a callback to when I was younger and we would play games like "Bubble gum bubble gum in a dish, how many pieces do you wish?" to pick who was it for Tag and things like that. I also talk about Cocoa Puffs which were IT back in the day. I use that imagery and nostalgia to leap into the verse and "spoonfeed" you the situation. The rest of Bubblegum is a mix between an flex and a predictor/prediction of my future success.]
when the bottle stops
then we all run [Spin the Bottle x Kick the Can]
wishy washy
fill the pot with bubble gum
skin the color chocolate milk from cocoa puffs
wishy washy
fill the pot with bubble gum
Ring around the rosies
Pocket full of posies
wishy washy
fill the pot with bubble gum
Skin the color chocolate milk from cocoa puffs
Wishy washy fill the pot with bubblegum
in a dish
lemme spoonfeed the situation [like a spoon in a bowl of Cocoa Puffs, but also let me lead you into what’s going on here.]
it feel like all my pieces activated [Think Power Rangers, Voltron. I’m operating at full power, everything is in harmony.]
when i sleep i see scenes
that my heart containing
and i weep for the days that been tainted
[Dreams supposedly contain messages from the subconscious. These lines are about the impact childhood has on the rest of your life as well as the sadness associated with the end of youth and loss of innocence, especially loss of innocence via traumatic experience. I started this way to tie the childlike chorus to the theme of the verses.]
Zo ra ta my wrist
gold rose tint
In the light it shine pure
Got that dope boys rinse
[I have a rose gold watch from this online retailer Zorata. It’s icy af I ain’t gon hold you. Dope boys rinse, like wipe me down, I’m drenched, I’m dripping, I’m icy.]
i remember wipe me down
had the old me pressed
like it’s not the type of thing
i would boldly request
but this song got the same connotation
and the concepts went way over my head as a kid
[Deadass when I was a shorty and Wipe Me Down - Boosie Badazz would come on, I had this vivid imagery of an adult getting their diaper changed. Like wtf how is this a flex Boosie, wipe yourself LMAO. I had my uncle in the stu when I recorded Bubblegum and he dropped that OG knowledge on me. Now I know, Wipe Me Down cuz I’m fresh AF. That’s what Bubblegum is about: endless potential and unrelenting freshness.]
i know i means what i say
when i say i feel that
Wipe me down
stainless steel [I had an image in my head of red velvet cloth wiping down a handgun. It doesn’t really mean anything, but it’s an intense image.]
like i got my skill back
no hesitations, reservations,
imma need a skill cap
[In video games and the like, characters that get too powerful have their power reduced to make things more fair for other people. I’m saying I’m too strong, they need to come together and stop me before it gets unfair for everyone else.]
i reek of endless potential
the scent it seeps from my locks [This is a callback to childhood and how it felt like you could do anything. That, and I have dreads. The play on words is from Skill CAP, like a hat, so I start talking about my hair. I’m so full to the brim (another play on words; I’m nice I can’t lie) with potential that it’s coming out of my pores, dawg. I talk about how that potential could manifest in the future in the next couple lines. I like that I started off talking about dreams of the past, then ended talking about dreams of the future.]
ima purchase a rental
date a nurse up in dental [No BS I be falling in love at the dentist. I have pretty dentists and dental nurses. I be at PEACE in them chairs I ain’t gon hold you.]
Yeah, I’ll have offshore accounts
tom ford amounts
my mental home renovation
reflect the walls of my house [This is a shout-out to my efforts to renovate my life. I make an effort to keep a clean space, and that little bit of discipline has since snowballed. So as my mentality changed, as my inner world grew structured, so did my outer world begin to reflect those changes.]
i got a itch for the painting
water these colors for
get it? [“Water”, like “What are” and watercolor paints. Water these colors for = what are these colors for. Get it?…for…Get it? for get it? Forget it?]
forgotten then [;)]
no skin off my hide [This is a saying that means something like “No sweat” or “It doesn’t bother me”. The last couple lines are a sort of descent into madness with me talking/bantering with myself as a lyricist and performer. I thought it was a clever exchange and was having a spot of fun :)]
